Who We Are:
The Woburn 250th Anniversary Celebration Committee is a dedicated group of community members, historians, and local leaders working together to commemorate Woburn’s role in the American Revolution.
Our Mission:
To celebrate Woburn’s Revolutionary War heritage, engage the community in meaningful events, and ensure the preservation of our historic sites for generations to come.
Our Charge:
I, Michael P. Concannon, Mayor, hereby establish the Woburn 250th Celebration Committee, tasked with commemorating the 250th anniversary of the Battles of Lexington and Concord. The Committee will promote and celebrate Woburn’s significant contributions to these historic events, ensuring our city’s pivotal role is recognized and honored. To carry out this charge, community members will be appointed by the Mayor to the Committee, each bringing their unique perspectives and commitment to preserving and celebrating Woburn’s rich history. The Committee shall have the authority to raise and expend funds for the purpose stated as approved by the Mayor and the City Auditor.
1. Battle Road Memorial Area
We are transforming a section of the Tarkey School site into a historic memorial area. This space will highlight Woburn’s role in the Battles of Lexington and Concord, complete with interpretive panels detailing our city’s history and the importance of Battle Road. 2. Revolutionary Celebration – April 12, 2025
Mark your calendars! This special occasion will commemorate our city’s rich Revolutionary War history with a brand-new monument, interpretive signage, and a thoughtfully designed seating area for visitors to reflect on our past. Learn more!
3. National Register of Historic Places Nomination
Woburn’s Battle Road is a hidden gem of Revolutionary War history. We are working to achieve National Register recognition to preserve and share its story with a wider audience.
The Battle Road Memorial Area will honor Woburn’s vital role in the Battles of Lexington and Concord on April 19, 1775, by creating a passive space for reflection, education, and appreciation of our city’s Revolutionary War heritage. This thoughtfully designed memorial will highlight Woburn’s contributions to America’s fight for independence and the significance of Battle Road, which once connected Woburn to the broader conflict.
The Memorial area will also include benches, a native garden, and additional trees.
This project is made possible through a generous grant from the Massachusetts Office of Travel and Tourism (MOTT) and the Freedom’s Way National Heritage Area. Their support underscores the importance of preserving and promoting Woburn’s Revolutionary heritage.
