I Am Not Your Negro is as much a work of art as it an up-to-the-minute examination of race in America. James Baldwin died in 1987, leaving 30 pages of an unfinished manuscript behind. Filmmaker Raul Peck uses Baldwin’s original words and a flood of rich archival material to complete the story Baldwin started. Following the screening, we’ll be joined by two scholars to unpack the the themes and ideas presented in the film.

Woburn Public Library’s Podcast Discussion Group
Join us as we delve into the debate about DNA tests, identity, and experience by listening to and discussing CodeSwitch’s Who’s Your Great-Great-Great Grandaddy. Light refreshments will be served.

Past Events:

SCI: Community Forums on Race Relations
To date, we have had three very successful community forums focusing on the topic of race relations within the City of Woburn. Out of these forums has come a number of ideas and volunteers willing to move them forward. These include: a Welcome Wagon program for newcomers in the City of Woburn, an ‘Unlearning Racism’ class for racist stereotypes and a Student-Parent Mentor program for the Woburn Public School system. Please contact mobrien@socialcapitalinc.org if interested in helping out with any of these!
