Woburn’s Digital Equity Planning Process

The City of Woburn is proud to announce its acceptance into the Massachusetts Broadband Institute (MBI) Digital Equity Program. This initiative will enable Woburn to collaborate with a specialized consultant to develop a comprehensive digital equity plan, aiming to enhance digital infrastructure and bridge access gaps within the community.

As part of the planning process, the City and our project team will be hosting drop in sessions to learn from the community about what they are experiencing.

About the Digital Equity Plan
The Digital Equity Plan is Woburn’s commitment to ensuring that all residents have the digital tools and skills they need to thrive in today’s connected world. As part of the Massachusetts Broadband Institute (MBI) Digital Equity Program, this initiative focuses on addressing barriers to digital inclusion, including:

1. Adequate Computing Devices
   Ensuring every resident can acquire and maintain a dedicated personal computing device that meets their needs.
2. Affordable, Reliable Broadband Connection
   Providing fast and stable internet access for seamless video conferencing, online learning, and other essential digital tasks.
3. Digital Literacy Skills
   Equipping residents with the knowledge to use devices effectively, navigate the internet, consume information wisely, and stay safe online.

Our Partnership with MBI
Woburn is proud to collaborate with the MBI Digital Equity Program, a statewide initiative to promote equitable access to digital resources. Through this partnership, Woburn is working with a specialized consultant to assess the city’s current digital landscape and develop a comprehensive plan to improve access and infrastructure.

Plan Objectives
The Digital Equity Plan will focus on:

• Infrastructure Assessment: Evaluating existing digital infrastructure and identifying areas for enhancement.
• Access Analysis: Pinpointing access gaps affecting residents, businesses, schools, and neighborhoods.
• Strategic Planning: Crafting actionable steps to improve digital access and equity across Woburn.
• Community Engagement: Gathering input from residents and stakeholders to ensure a community-centered approach.
