ABOUT WOBURN PUBLIC LIBRARY
Woburn Public Library is a national historic landmark built in 1879, boasting a state-of-the-art new addition that is an architectural marvel. The newly renovated space re-opened to the public in March 2019 and houses a spacious Children’s Room and Teen Room.
The Woburn Public Library connects the community to resources, services, and experiences that educate, enrich and entertain.
ABOUT THE ROLE
The library is seeking candidates to serve as Substitute Librarians. Substitutes will fill in as needed on public desks, including Children’s, Teens, Circulation and Reference. Substitutes are expected to perform at the level of regular staff in order to provide seamless service to the patron community.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
Assisting patrons at public desks in locating and using library materials
Charging, discharging, reserving, and renewing library materials, including Library of Things and Museum Passes
Registering new patrons and answering basic account questions
Performing various clerical tasks, such as preparing information packets, and directing phone calls to the appropriate department
Answering general and directional questions, and directing more complex questions to regular staff
Explaining library policies and handling confidential patron information
Assisting with library programs and activities as needed
Assists patrons with public computer use, including troubleshooting, printing, and scanning
Assists patrons with digital resources, including OverDrive and library databases
Provides Reference and readers’ advisory services
Performs interlibrary loan functions (Commonwealth Catalog, OCLC, etc.)
Other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
MLS from an ALA accredited institution
Proven customer service skills with ability to work well with the public and other team members
Proficient computer skills; familiarity with the Sierra ILS a plus
Experience in the Minuteman Library Network (MLN) system strongly desired
Knowledge of current public library Circulation practices
High degree of flexibility and ability to multitask
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
Good organizational skills and attention to detail with appropriate follow-up
Dependable with excellent attendance demonstrated in previous work experience
Must be able to stand for several hours, move loaded book carts, move boxes up to 20 pounds and reach shelves
MLS from an ALA accredited institution

The employee has regular access to a wide variety of confidential information, including patron records.
SALARY RANGE
$26/hr.
