The City of Woburn has issued the first batch of automobile excise bills for calendar year 2018. The bills were issued February 2nd and are due in 30 days or March 5th. Taxpayers are advised not to ignore this bill even though they may no longer own the vehicle. Penalties and interest amass fast and often can exceed the original excise bill. If you wish to pay your bill online or to learn about other payment options click here.
Excise bills are prepared by the Registry of Motor Vehicles according to the information on the motor vehicle registration. They are sent to the city assessors who commit them to the tax collector for distribution and collection of payment. If an owner of a motor vehicle thinks that he/she is entitled to an adjustment of his/her excise bill, it is strongly recommended that s/he pay the bill in full, then contact the local Board of Assessors for an application for abatement.
