A Reminder About Use of Plastic Bags and Reusable Bags, per Order of Mass Department of Public Health

From Mayor Galvin’s Office:  As a reminder, Governor Baker issued in late March a Public Heath order that temporarily prohibits the use of reusable bags specifically at grocery stores and pharmacies.

Governor Baker’s Order also lifts existing local regulations on the use of plastic bags at grocery stores and pharmacies.

That means the City of Woburn’s plastic bag ban will still go into effect on May 1, 2020, but the Governor’s Order will delay its application at grocery stores and pharmacies. The goal of the delay is aimed at limiting the spread of the Coronavirus.

Please refer to the Commissioner of Public Health’s Order specific to grocery stores and pharmacies only: DPH_Grocery-Pharmacy-3.25.2020.

See paragraphs 6, 7 and 8 for specific language regarding the use of plastic single use bags.
