Residents Welcome New Ways to Enjoy Woburn Center

This summer, Woburn Center received some extra attention, with a series of community and state-backed initiatives breathing new life into its public spaces. Thanks to a state earmark secured by State Representative Rich Haggerty, and support from the Woburn Redevelopment Authority and City Council, the city has implemented several improvements aimed at making Woburn a more vibrant and pedestrian-friendly place.

Residents have been enjoying the new outdoor seating that has been added to the Woburn Public Library lawn and Marlowe Park. These areas provide comfortable spots for residents to enjoy the outdoors. Additionally, the Pocket Park has seen the addition of a giant chessboard and new decorative lighting. Keep your eye on the calendar for community events that are being planned for the fall and spring to bring us together to enjoy these enhancements.

The City has installed two bike repair stations at Horn Pond and Leland Park along the Tri-Community Bike Path. These stations are equipped with tools and an air pump to assist bikers on their rides. We hope these additions enhance the biking experience for our community and visitors!

Looking ahead, the city will also be introducing additional seating in the form of solar-powered benches. These innovative benches will allow users to charge their phones while relaxing outside and will be installed in the coming weeks.

In addition to new spaces to relax, focus on cleaning up shared spaces was a priority. This included the deep cleaning of the sidewalks and City Hall, made possible by Atlantic Power Wash, a local business that generously donated their services. This effort has helped refresh the downtown area and make it more inviting.

In addition to all of these efforts, Woburn’s Public Works department has completed a thorough cleanup of Magazine Hill and the North Main Street parking lot, contributing to the overall upkeep and beautification of the city.

Longer term, the City’s Planning office is building a comprehensive parking management plan. This plan aims develop long-term solutions for parking in Woburn Center, improving convenience for visitors and businesses.

To encourage pedestrian safety, the city has also purchased new crosswalk signs designed to prompt drivers to yield to those crossing the street. This initiative aligns with Woburn’s focus on improving walkability and creating a safer environment for everyone.

A more comprehensive downtown traffic safety program will be rolled out with support from the state as early as 2029. A comprehensive design effort is underway to maximize value for residents and downtown businesses. Our first community input session is being held September 26th at 6pm in City Council Chambers. All residents are invited to share feedback on our early design concepts.
