Woburn is in a Level 1 – Mild Drought.
On September 10, 2026, Energy and Environmental Affairs (EEA) Secretary Rebecca Tepper declared the Northeast Regions have improved to a Level-1 Mild Drought, which includes Woburn.
“The rain we saw this summer is helping, and we’re encouraged to see conditions improve across the state,” said Secretary Tepper. “We need more steady rain over the long-term, and we’re asking everyone across the state to conserve water and to help protect local water supplies and ensure enough water for fire protection.”
Overall, rainfall from June through August was near or above normal across much of the state. However, longer-term rainfall deficits remain in many parts of the state.
How can you help?
Residents and Businesses are urged to:
- Minimize overall water use;
- Limit outdoor watering to one day per week from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 a.m., or less frequently if required by your water supplier;
- Plant only local and drought-resistant species;
- Fix indoor leaks, such as from toilets, faucets, and showers, which result in more than 60 percent of indoor use;
- For larger buildings and businesses, conduct water audits to identify areas of leaks and potential water conservation opportunities;
- Minimize lawn sizes; and,
- Consider installing a rain barrel to harvest rainwater for outdoor watering.
