Virtual Townhall on Eldercare:
What to expect and what you need to know
Hosted by the Upper Middlesex Commission on the Status of Women
June 5, 2023 06:00 PM – 7:30 PM

Caring for the elderly falls disproportionately on those who identify as women, and the
majority of elders are also women. As a commission, our priority is to connect community
resources with elders and their caretakers, especially family members, and to work with
partners to examine systemic barriers and seek solutions to address them.
This virtual townhall brings together state legislators and experts to discuss what you need
to know about caring for aging family members. Panelists will discuss current legislation
focused on eldercare; evaluation, care management, caregiver support, and access to free
and fee-based services; and how to advocate for elder care as an employee benefit.
Confirmed speakers
● Regional Commissioner Jennifer Roecklein-Canfield, Ph.D.
● State Senator Jason Lewis
● Kelly Magee-Wright, Minuteman Elder Services
● Dr. Julie Norstrand, Newton Council on Aging; Help My Aging Parents, LLC
The commission will share resources, invite input on a developing guide, and invite
comment on other needs and resources in the community.
We invite all to complete this Planning for Caregiving survey to inform the townhall and
our work: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/XCYMFPF
