Sign-up for the Woburn Public Library 2017 Summer Reading Adventure starts June 1 and runs through July 28.
This year, the theme is “Build a Better World.” From projects that build bridges through caring, and projects that challenge using unusual materials to solve problems, students entering kindergarten through grade five can take part in activities and read books to pique their curiosity and creativity.
Some of the activities will include building a fairy house or gnome home, creating “Rube Goldberg” machines, making structures using paper tubes and cardboard squares, painting “kindness rocks,” and taking a guided nature walk around Horn Pond lagoon.
Reading logs can be picked up at the library in its new location at 36 Cummings Park. The reading portion of the program doesn’t start until July 3. When a student meets or exceeds his/her reading goal each week, he or she earns a museum or activity pass from area museums and programs in and around Woburn. Completing at least four weeks of the summer reading program entitles the student to a certificate, a packet of coupons, a prize from Topsfield Fair and a free ticket to a Pawtucket Red Sox game.
