City of Woburn Selected for Technical Assistance to Upgrade Main Street “Pocket Park”; Workshop RESCHEDULED TO Thursday, July 26th

**PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS EVENT HAS BEEN POSTPONED FROM 6/28/18 DUE TO PENDING WEATHER. IT HAS BEEN RESCHEDULED TO THURSDAY, JULY 26th, FROM 6:00-8:00 PM**

Mayor Scott Galvin is pleased to announce the City of Woburn has been selected by MassDevelopment to participate in a technical assistance design program with the goal of activating creative, welcoming public spaces. Spearheaded by the Woburn Redevelopment Authority (WRA), the effort will bring together design professionals, City staff and members of the public to conceptualize improvements to the City-owned pocket park at 460 Main Street.

The WRA has identified the park as a topic of interest in recent months as it is one of only a few parcels of public land in Woburn’s central business district. Mayor Scott Galvin and members of the Authority have envisioned a more productive use of the space that could both increase its appeal and utility to downtown patrons and visitors. The City’s participation in MassDevelopment’s “Placemaking” program aims to achieve just that.

The designated design team includes members of the Boston Society of Landscape Architects (BSLA) and a local architecture firm, G2 Collaborative Landscape Architecture. The collective task is to generate community interest and input in the park redesign project and the preliminary goal is to produce a conceptual redesign plan and budget based on the feedback of local residents and City representatives.

The design team is also promoting art as a critical component of a re-imagined space. As such, a broad range public input and idea-sharing will be invaluable to the success of this project. As a nearby property owner or tenant, we cordially invite you to attend the public workshop (“design charrette”) which will be held on-site at the park on Thursday, July 26th, 2018 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m., rain or shine.

It is the hope of city officials that this initiative will serve as yet another catalyst to enhance and beautify Woburn Center.
