Funding available to improve disability access

FUNDING NOW AVAILABLE FOR DISABILITY-RELATED MODIFICATIONS

The Massachusetts Rehabilitation Commission has announced the availability of no-cost loans designed to improve access to private residences by the elderly and persons with disabilities.

The Home Modification Loan Program (HMLP) is a Statewide program that provides no-interest loans to individuals and families for home modifications needed to accommodate a disability.   Grants from $1,000 to $50,000 are available for improvements such as installation of ramps and lifts, widening of doorways, and alteration of kitchens and bathrooms.  The loan terms are zero interest and the loan does not have to be repaid until the home is sold or transferred.
