City of Woburn Accepted into MBI Digital Equity Program

The City of Woburn is proud to announce its acceptance into the Massachusetts Broadband Institute (MBI) Digital Equity Program. This initiative will enable Woburn to collaborate with a specialized consultant to develop a comprehensive digital equity plan, aiming to enhance digital infrastructure and bridge access gaps within the community.

The MBI Digital Equity Program, an esteemed initiative dedicated to promoting equitable access to digital resources across the state, has recognized Woburn’s commitment to improving digital inclusion. By participating in this program, Woburn will undertake a thorough assessment to identify current weaknesses in the city’s digital infrastructure and address significant access shortfalls that impact residents and businesses alike.

“We are thrilled to be part of the MBI Digital Equity Program,” said Woburn Mayor Michael P. Concannon. “This partnership will allow us to pinpoint the areas where we need improvement and take actionable steps to ensure that all members of our community have the digital access they need to thrive in today’s connected world.”

Through this collaboration, Woburn will develop a strategic plan focusing on several key objectives:

  • Infrastructure Assessment: Evaluating the existing digital infrastructure to identify areas needing enhancement or expansion.
  • Access Analysis: Determining the specific access shortfalls affecting various segments of the community, including neighborhoods, schools, and local businesses.
  • Strategic Planning: Crafting a detailed plan that outlines steps to improve digital equity, ensuring widespread and reliable internet access for all residents.
  • Community Engagement: Involving local stakeholders in the planning process to gather input and foster a community-centric approach to digital inclusion.

Additionally, the completion of this digital equity plan will position Woburn to access future funding opportunities for the implementation of the plan’s recommendations. This will ensure that the identified improvements can be effectively carried out, bringing long-term benefits to the community.

The ultimate goal of Woburn’s participation in the MBI Digital Equity Program is to ensure that every resident has the opportunity to benefit from modern digital resources, thereby promoting educational opportunities, economic development, and overall quality of life.
